IELTS Writing Task 1- Writing a report on Static Data-2

Lets continue with Writing task 1- Describing Static Data.

So, we have learnt so far:

1.The use of comparative and superlative adjectives


2. Combining then with adverbs like,much,a lot etc.

Now we will learn how to describe the data in a negative manner. Focus on the following:


More Examples of the above sentence structure:
1.Ram's job is not as demanding as mohan's.

2.Studying in New zealand does not coast as much as studying in USA.

3.Sita is not as clever as gita.


4.Participating in olympics is not as difficult as winning a gold in it.

Notice that the adjectives that are used (demanding,much,clever,difficult) are in Basic form and not in comparatives or Superlatives.

We use these structures when we want to compare data in a negative manner.
Make sure you use atleast 2 such sentences when describing a Static Data .

Now lets practice this structure:
Ans: The Fratton Road library was not as busy as the one in Commercial Road in March.

1.French fries is not as expensive as hamburgers.
2.Majorca is not as warm as Castellon
3.Northern trains is not as fast as the southern trains.



You can write a few more if you want.

Rewrite the following sentences using the above phrases to express whether is a small or a large difference:










More Example:

The laptop did not cost as much as the desktop

The XYZ company has not hired as many employes as the ABC company.

My friend does not exercise as often as I do.



There can be other answers too.These are suggested answers.

So we have learnt till here how to use comparatives,superlatives to compare and describe our data in Static Data.Now we shall see what kind od Linking word or expressions we can use to join these sentences.

The grammar used with WHILE and WHEREAS is a bit different to the grammar used with COMPARED TO and AS OPPOSED TO.Try to observe it on your own.

Example:

  • The boy, WHO came first in the state is from my class.
  • Raipur is the city,WHICH came first among the cleanest cities in India.
  • It is Canada,WHERE I would like to spend the rest of my life.

Here,WHO,WHICH and WHERE are relative clauses.
